SHOWCASE: ANNA SUI AUTUMN/WINTER I 2010 COLLECTION

Aug17

Hello!

So I recently had the opportunity to take a look at ANNA SUI'S latest makeup collection from the AUTUMN/WINTER 1 COLLECTION which consists of a whopping 7 Eye Colour Duos and 25 Eye Colours (singles).

First up, we all met at The Marmalade Pantry at ION to chat over iced coffees, entrees and cakes and instead of perusing the menu, we were all busy playing with makeup at the table

Didn't Mommy teach us not to play with our 'toys' at the dinner table? :P

And amidst the food and swatching / photo-taking, there were bound to be some goofball moments, of which I present only 2:

Goofball Moment #1: Waving around my MAC Dazzleglass in Love Alert (after touching up) at a table full of Anna Sui people and Anna Sui makeup *blasphemy*! LOL!

Goofball Moment #2: Silly silly silly faux-experiment to see if camera is smart enough to take photos the right way around even if I held it upside down. Who's the silly one now?

*************************************************************

SHOW ME THE COLOURS!

Such a pretty variety! Like a rainbow eh? I LOVE the tissue box holder - everytime I go to an Anna Sui counter, I always gawk at the pretty accessories like the trays, etc.

And below are the close-up shots of the super pretty eyeshadow compacts! We were told that these were inspired by some furniture that Anna Sui herself had in her house during her recent refurbishments / renovations ...

I always say I don't care too much about packaging (as in I don't quite care if it looks funky or cheapy as long as the pruduct is great?) but pretty packaging is a bonus - I'd say this comes under pretty packaging ya? Its a plastic compact with a metallic inlay-design, which mimics the opalescent glow of mother-of-pearl. The 2nd shot has the reflection of the clouds while the 3rd shot shows the reflection of the setting sun :)

*********************************************************************************

So, what's in the compacts?

EYE COLOUR SINGLES:

L-R: Platinum Silver; Shine Gold; Anna Red; Ever Green; Joy Pink

Each Eye Colour (single) has the iconic Anna Sui rose motif etched onto the pressed eyeshadow and is gently scented with the oh-so-familiar signature rose scent - although I don't quite remember the previous range of eyeshadows being scented.  Like the previous range of eyeshadows there is a large selection of bright and bold colours and several eyeshadows apply with a velvet, low-sheen finish.  There are a couple, like Platinum Silver (002) and Shine Gold (800) pictured above which are of the pearlised / shimmery finish.

As I remember from the previous collection, most of the eyeshadows are smooth, and well-pigmented. Anna Sui's current collection has a wide range of both neutrals and bright colours including a sunny yellow, juicy orange, fresh greens, and a vibrant blues, so there's likely to be something for everyone.

********************************************************************************

 EYE COLOUR DUOS:

L-R: Feminine Purple Nuance; Mysterious Blue Nuance

Funky Violet Nuance

These are slightly different from what we've seen before - the lighter shade in the compact is a "highly polarised" pearlised eyeshadow that creates a gradational effect when blended over the deeper shade.  I apologise for not being able to show swatches of the gradation at this point but I will update this post when I get the chance to do so.

According to Anna Sui, the pearls and pigments in the duos are coated with silicone for a "soft" effect - a diffused colour effect perhaps? As you can see from the swatches, the duos also apply very smoothly (almost creamily!) and with a pearlised finish.  The other colour combinations include pale-green + purple, bronzed gold + medium sea blue and pale icy blue + deep sea green

While the duos are all very pretty, I personally would have loved to see a couple of different colour combinations in the line-up - purple and teal toned shades tend to dominate in the collection of duos a little (with at least 3 of the duos containing a purple shade).

The Eye Colour Duos retail at SGD$51 for 3.4gm of product while the Eye Colours (singles) retail at SGD$35 for 2.4gm of product.

*********************************************************************************

NAIL COLOUR N:

L-R: Glassy Pearl Brown (504); Glassy Pearl Purple (209); Glassy Pearl Clear (011); Glassy Pearl Pink (320): Glassy Pearl Blue (108)

The last swatch is a glittery black polish that is a permanent item product.

The AW collection also has 5 Limited Edition Nail Polishes, retailing at SGD$24 for a 10ml bottle, that are all really pretty! If you know me at all, you know I have a disgusting weakness for nail polish that has flakies and glitter and these have both! It seems that recurring theme in this collection might be the opalescent effect (remember the eyeshadow compacts?) - the nail polishes are essentially coloured jelly-bases with loads of opalescent flakies and glitter, making them good candidates for layering.  It seems like of the 5, Glassy Pearl Brown appears to be the most opaque.

My favourite of the bunch? Glassy Pearl BLUE! Its actually a little more teal-toned and the moment I saw it, I wanted it to layer over my OPI Black Onyx and Catch Me In Your Net! Sooo pretty!

****************************************************************

MINI LIP ROUGE V:

Another Limited Edition item in this collection is the Mini Lip Rouge V.  Available in 3 shades of Vivid Red, Vivid Pink and Vivid Purple, Mini Lip Rouge Vs are teeny pots of glittery lip gloss in a rose-shaped compact; the compacts come with a little chain which you can attach to your handphone or pouch like a little charm.  However, since these retail at SGD$33 a pop (for 1.2 gm of product), I personally wouldn't take the risk by hanging these on my handphone (I'm always chucking my phone everywhere and shoving them in my jeans pocket so that's a no-go for me!) :P

The colours of the box and the compact themselves correspond to the shade of the Lip Rouge! I honestly really like the box - so hippy-happy!

Not because I want to make comparisons but just from eyeballing the lip balm, the blue-purple micro-glitter in the purple-pink base really reminded me of my beloved MAC Dazzleglass in Funtabulous.  Like several of Anna Sui's compacts, the Mini Lip Rouge compact is not only pretty, its functional with the addition of the teeny but useful mirror, making this great for touch-ups.  I always carry a retractable lip brush (MAC 318) in my MU pouch for my OCC Lip Tars and other lip products given I don't like dipping my fingers into cream products like these.

***********************************************************************

Currently, Anna Sui is holding a promotional event at the Wisma Atria Atrium (until 18 Aug 2010 if I'm not wrong).

Makeover area at the atrium - check out the red-velvet seated "throne"!

****************************************************************************

Promotions at this event include a Sure-Win-Lucky Dip with purchases of SGD$200 and above.

*************************************************************************

A close-up shot of the eye look featured in the promotional images.  Of course, I was attracted to this "EOTD" since Teal and Purple are one of my personal favourite combinations that I use rather often and have featured on this blog a couple of times! :) Anyone wants to recreate this look? (I think I might have that guava-pink shade already - in my SLEEK Circus Palette! *sssshhhhh* LOL!)

****************************************************************

The Happy Campers!

**********************************************************************

As always, I had a fun time swatching and yapping with everyone (as seen in Rougedeluxe's entry on the same event :P LOL!) - and I LOVE playing with NEW testers! haha! I'm looking forward to trying out the eyeshadows in some looks soon and I'll report if the rose scent in the eyeshadow remains with me the whole day! Ohh, and of course, how it holds up! hee hee!

Joey: pretty right? LOL! Yah, my fascination for the Anna Sui range is always with that bright red eyeshadow - i remember being captivated by it when it was featured in the previous collection also! They have a matchy red mascara too y'know :P. By the way, did u pick up anything from this collection? :)

Ooh that EOTD shot turned out real good, it's so pretty! And true about purple dominating most of the collection. Come to think of it, green seems pretty rare in their range!

Sara: Yep, I was surprised it turned out soo clear and bright! Soo happy with it! And looking at all the promo pics and all, the theme is definitely teal and purple which is NICEEE! :P

Rusty: You saw the ad in the magazine? I took the close-up EOTD shot from the poster at the Sure-Win Lucky Dip counter :) Try this look if you haven't already? :)

Chocfull: Yes! That pale apple green is very very pretty! Did you get it?

Michelle: That"one day" will come sooooon! ;) Yeah, Marmalade Pantry is pricey but the Iced Coffees / Mochas are simply lovely! They came in huge tumblers and had a scoop of ice cream in them - I wasn't quite paying attention so I was pleasantly surprised by the ice-cream! The deluxe choc fudge cake is also nice but waaay too big - 3 pple can share it comfortably without fighting!

You took the eye shot on the 'cabinet' under the glass display, I think that's why it's super duper high res. haha.

Sara: Hmmm ... so its nice and clear because of that, rather than because of my excellent photography skills?????? and then

Matching red mascara did you say? Woww.. wonder how that's gonna look like!! I haven't gotten anything (yet).. I dun particularly like their packaging. Although there are cute, I find them a little bulky.. So, yeap.. till then =)

Joey: LOL! I've been wondering about that myself for a while! One day, I shall bring a disposable spoolie and try the red mascara at the counter! As for the packaging, I think a lot of people are attracted to the packaging, quite the opposite! But like I was telling someone that day, when eyeshadows are all in the individual compacts, I tend to neglect them a little more. But with pacakging like this, I definitely won't depot them ...

This idea just came by: wouldn't it look great for the tips of our lashes? As in we apply black mascara then the red as accent ;)

Joey: Hmmm, I wonder .. being me, I'll probably OTT and apply to the whole lash! LOL!

Farrah: I like how it "glows" in the sun!
