SHOWCASE + OPERATION COVERT SNAPSHOT: CLARINS FESTIVE MAKEUP (BAROCCO) & SKINCARE COFFRET SETS (UPDATED w MORE ON DEALS & GWP!)

Nov12

Hellloooo!

Its been awhile but Iris (Rougedeluxe) gave me an idea - she suggested that I need not keep away from my blog during my exam period altogether; instead, she suggested I could blog after I polish off a particular amount of revision!

Last week, the lovely folks at CLARINS invited a couple of us to preview their new Limited Edition Festive makeup collection, BAROCCO (which I had earlier featured in my HOLIDAY WISHLIST HERE!!!).  We were also told that they were also launching some Limited Edition Skincare Coffrets for the festive season - coffret sets are usually value for money since they often include one (or sometimes 2 even) main product in full size plus other products in deluxe or discovery sizes.

I was out today to pick up some stuff and I saw that both the BAROCCO makeup collection and the Skincare coffrets are already on sale at the Clarins counters.

SKINCARE COFFRETS:

The details will soon be published on the CLARINS website and Facebook (at the time of this entry, the details were not up yet) - so I snapped some sneaky pics with my phone (hence the grainy quality .. sigh). Listed below are some of the prices of the coffrets (which I've listed according to the product range in most cases) I managed to get from the BA (hopefully they are all correct!):

UPDATE: CLARINS provided some official details on the coffret sets - like I mentioned above, the sets seem like real good deals if you're interested, given that they are retail at a much lower price than the total value of the set. Check out the details below or for the full range of sets, you can pop down to a Clarins counter :)

FRAGRANCE COFFRETS (Dynamisante or Tranquility) - SGD$82 (savings of SGD$32)

MOISTURE RICH BODY LOTION COFFRET - SGD$59 (savings of SGD$39)

SUPER RESTORATIVE (SERUM) COFFRET - SGD$236

SUPER RESTORATIVE (DAY CREAM) COFFRET - SGD$200

MEN'S ESSENTIALS COFFRET - SGD$108 (savings of $34)

DOUBLE SERUM GENERATION 6 COFFRET - SGD$136 (savings of SGD$110!)

EXTRA FIRMING COFFRET - SGD$121

HYDRA-QUENCH COFFRET - SGD$88 (savings of SGD$62)

Also, there are some special Gift-With-Purchases which are available till 3 Dec 2010!

As I mentioned, the LE coffrets are often a good purchase (especially when you want a couple of products in the same range) and are often rather reasonably priced.  However, as the coffrets are already special sets, they are usually not eligible for additional discounts during storewide sales like the METRO 20% sales, but if you hold a Tangs rewards card, then you're still eligible for a 6% or 10% rebate :)

Also, if you're interested in getting one of the skincare coffrets but are at a loss at which to get (since there are about 12 coffrets to choose from!), why not try the CLARINS SKIN TIME? Even though I've been acquainted with the brand for a couple of years already, I found the session very useful as I got to try a variety of products that I hadn't previously purchased. Newer users should find the no-strings attached, complimentary session even more useful :)

And here are shots and swatches of the decadent BAROCCO Festive Makeup collection!

(All swatches are medium swatches, NO BASE and on NC 43-45 skintone)

I LOVE the eye look in the promotional image! (But the model has suuuuch a prominent brow bone that adds that pizazzzz to the look, whereas my brow bone is not as prominent ... well, we learn to make the best of what we have yah?)

FACE PALETTE

The first thing that gets you about the face palette? The compact is solid and incredibly heavy! But the compact is gorgeous - the black scroll on the shiny gold case is definitely fingerprint city but its so attractive and luxe looking!

The powder itself has two shades - pinky peach and a sandy-beige - the scroll design that forms the pinky peach part makes it difficult to just use either shade alone so they're actually meant to be used in combination as a highlight or complexion perfector.

As you can see in the swatch shots below, the unblended swatch (on the left) looks a tad chalky (I just swirled my fingers on the surface of the powder).  However, once blended out (on the right), it looks satiny. Its a tad light for my NC43-45 skintone to use as a blush, but it can be used to tone down a bright blush or simply as a highlight on the tops of the cheekbones for me.

The Face Palette retails for SGD$64

SHIMMERING GOLD POWDER

Of course, my instant reaction would be to compare this to the Guerlain Meteorites! But they're really totally different - the Guerlain Meteorites (to me) are more like a finishing powder that smells awesome, adding a delicate veil of micro-shimmer for a smoother, polished appearance.

On the other hand, the BAROCCO Shimmering Gold Powder is really a party in a box! I found the shimmer is irregular shaped which actually looks great - it catches the light in different angles, for a real party look.

Of course you can either pile it on with the enclosed powder puff or you can use a stippling brush. I totally recommend using the stippling brush - I was a little too enthusiastic while trying it on with the powder puff at the event and ended up with a CHESTFULL of gold dust.  I shall refrain from posting that shot since it consists mainly of boobage :P

The Shimmering Powder retails for SGD$70

EYE COLOUR TRIO

A trio of velvety black, an antique bronze-gold and a luxe gold - I was told the eyeshadows can be used wet for a more intense finish (hoooray!) but as you can see from the swatches below, they are really rather pigmented, even when swatched dry.

The Eye Colour Trio retails at SGD$64

ROUGE PRODIGE LIPSTICK

Ok, so we all know I've JUST only gotten the hang of red lipstick but I still am a little afraid of deeper reds. I was made to change my mind about the Rouge Prodige lipstick in BAROCCO - I was a little hesitant to try it on but its really a lovely deep red, that has that touch of berry but not soooo much that its totally a vampy maroon shade (at least on my skintone).  Its definitely a touch deeper than my other red lipsticks like MAC Brave Red or Illamasqua Encounter.

As with the other lipsticks in the Rouge Prodige range (I have featured Rouge Prodige lipsticks in Tea Rose, Miami Pink and Rosewood on this blog so far), the lipstick is smooth, pigmented and rather long-wearing.  I did not have a bleeding or feathering problem with it either (which seems to be an issue with deeper shades I think) but then again, I'm a strong believer in using a lipliner (outline only).

The Rouge Prodige lipstick retails for SGD$35

I'm SO SORRY!!! One of the giveaway items sprang a little leak so I'm putting the GIVEAWAY ON HOLD till a later time so that I can find a suitable replacement. Till then! :)

Superglamnews: Melissa right? Hi! I love body shimmer too, but as you've read above, I get a little over-enthusiastic with it sometimes! Other times, I am running out of the house cos I'm late and I simply forget to use the stuff! :P
