Spotlight: The Metro Ladies Night - Details On The Metro Card and the Metro Privilege/Gift Cards

Hello :) Hope you have been well!

This entry is mainly about details on what are the perks of the Metro Card and Metro Privilege/Gift cards and how you can go about applying for them.

The Metro Privilege / Gift Cards

The Metro Privilege/Gift card is a stored-value card, Discount card and membership privilege card all in one.

Application Procedures:

  • The Metro Privilege/Gift Card is valid for 2 years

  • The Metro Privilege/Gift Card can be renewed free as long as the cardholder has made purchases totalling a minimum of SGD$750 and above through the card during the validity period.

  • Instant membership privileges, benefits, discounts upon activation - with no previous purchase or accumulation of receipts required, the Privilege/Gift Card is a swift, smart shopping option - Load & Go!

  • 20% discount on regular-priced merchandise with blue tag during your birthday month plus other promotions

  • Exclusive cardmember promotions

  • Special invitations to Cardmembers' preview and events

Metro Card

The Metro Card on the other hand, is a personal card - it is issued in your name

Application Procedures:

  • Accumulate SGD$300 Nett worth of original Metro receipts (excluding receipts made from purchases with other Metro Cards, Metro Gift Cards, Metro Gift Voucher, Metro Shoppers Cheques) within 3 consecutive months and present these to the Metro Customer Service to instantly register and receive the Metro Card.

  • You can apply for a spouse card - a SGD$10 application fee aplies

  • All Metro Cards are valid for 2 years from the date of issue (the same validity period is applicable to the Spouse card)

  • To automatically renew your Metro Card, accumulate a spending of SGD$1000 within 2 years at Metro and a new card will be mailed to you.

  • Renewal of a Spouse card requires a SGD$10 renewal fee.

  • 10% discount on regular-priced merchandise with a blue price tag

  • 20% discount on regular-priced merchandise with a blue price tag during your birthday month plus other promotions

  • Exclusive cardmember promotions

  • Special invitations for Cardmembers' preview and events

Just to recap if you're unsure, here is how the Metro price-tags look like:

The price-tag on the left with the blue dot - that is the price tag that allows you a 10 and 20% discount as per listed in the details above. The price-tags with the yellow circle like on the right, denote a manufacturer-controlled brand. During the Metro Storewide 20% sales, instead of a direct discount, Metro issues a credit voucher equivalent to 20% savings on these purchases.

There is yet another price tag - a plain white price tag - no coloured dots. Merchandise with no coloured dots denote NETT priced-merchandise- these are not eligible for any discount. Merchandise with such plain white price tags are usually on special offers or sets - such as the value-for-money coffret sets.

I've held the Metro Card since 2003 actually - it was a graduating gift from NUS. Since then, I've had the card renewed several times over - I shop a lot at other department stores but for certain things like my staples, I usually wait for the Metro 20% sale and pick them up - like Clarins skincare and my foundations. Not all the 20% storewide sales are open to public; there are some member exclusive ones and the Birthday 20% discount (mine is in March, when the Spring collections are released!) so  having the Metro Card has proven useful for me. In fact, my nominated counters for Shu Uemura and Clarins are actually in Metro Paragon :)
As you've seen in my earlier entry on the Metro Ladies Night HERE, there are additional perks for Metro card holders so if you have the opportunity, you might want to check out the Metro Membership cards for some smart shopping :)

If you're holding on to either of these cards, you also receive mailers and promotional material from Metro. During Chinese New Year and Christmas especially, Metro often releases these magazines called Metropolis that feature the special holiday-themed collections and gifting ideas. I don't celebrate Christmas but I always look forward to the Metropolis magazine on the trims - the baubles are so pretty and I usually get one to hang in my room or in my bathroom :P

Hope this entry was useful. Remember, the Metro Ladies Night is this Friday 23 Nov 2012 from 6-11pm and you can RSVP for an invite HERE

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week ahead :)
