Showcase: Anna Sui Autumn 1 Collection 2012 - Rebel Girl

Jul29

Hello!

Anna Sui's new range of eyeshadows have just made their appearance at our counters - all 41 of them. The collection, Rebel Girl, was created by Anna Sui with the image of a strong, independent free-willed girl in mind - one who has a particular taste and her own free will.

With the eyes as the focus of the collection, Rebel Girl marks the debut of 41 shades of eyeshadow, comprising 35 powder eyeshadows and 6 cream eyeshadows.

Similar to the Shu Uemura Colour Atelier concept, the new Anna Sui eyeshadows come in little pans which can be fit into an ornate black compact. Each compact holds 3 eyeshadows - a nifty little trio to slip into your makeup pouch.

The display of eyeshadows at the counter is fuss-free and has the 41 shades split into cream and powder eyeshadows; the powder eyeshadows as you can see above, are further split into colour families like Green Tone, Yellow Tone and so on, making it easy to choose complementary and contrasting shades to customise your palette. Notably, there are 8 shades under the purple tone, given that purple is Anna Sui's favourite colour.

Here are some random swatches of the eyeshadows:

Some of the shades that caught my eye are 301 (a peachy rose gold), 502 (shimmery taupe-brown), 601 (peachy gold) and 902 (golden olive khaki).

The textures of the pearlised powder eyeshadows are rather good - smooth, with a good gleam about them when swatched.

Along with the eyeshadows, Anna Sui has also launched 5 new waterproof eyeliner pencils in Deep Black, Pearly White, Midnight Blue, Chocolate Brown and Olive Green, retailing at SGD$28 each.

************************************************************************

The new eyeshadow range looks like it might be a great option for those who are new to colourful makeup and want to explore a range of colours. Each pan is a decent-sized 1gm and retails at a reasonable price of SGD$19 (the previous collection of eyeshadow singles from the Autumn 2010 collection were SGD$35 for 2.4gm of product). The case to hold the 3 eyeshadow pans retails at SGD$16 - a fully customised palette of 3 eyeshadows will thus set you back SGD$73.

Have a swatch and you just might find something you like :)

**************************************************************************

Thanks for stopping by and have a good week ahead!

Showcase: Anna Sui Spring 2012 - Rose Cheek Colour & Double Lip Gloss (Including Swatches!) + Counter Party Details!

Feb14

Edit: There are 2 upcoming Anna Sui Counter Parties to celebrate the launch of their Spring Collection; details at the end of the entry :)

Hello!

Finally these have landed in our local Anna Sui counters! When I first saw press images of Anna Sui's new blushes for Spring 2012, I was quite taken by the beautiful blush pans - I was sure the rose insignia and the gradations of colours would turn out to be something special. And special they are!

Let's look at each pan in a more close-up shot, together with official color descriptions:

MYSTIC ROSE 100 - 4 shades of lilacs and purples for a glowy visage featuring an ice blue, pale lavender, orchid white and misty purple

ROMANTIC ROSE 300 - 4 shades of intense pinks for a beautiful pink flush featuring Fuchsia pink, rose pink, sweet pink and shell pink

DREAMY ROSE 301 - A beautiful harmony of corals, oranges and glimmering pinks featuring hot pink, candy pink, bright orange and peach pink

ANNA ROSE 400 - Another melange, this time of reds and pinks feauturing bright red, cardinal red, coral pink and pale pink

ANTIQUE ROSE 500 - A deeper, duskier melange of mauve pinks featuring reddish brown, smoky rose, cinnamon brown and warm beige

SUNNY ROSE 600 - Bright cheery golden oranges and corals featuring vivid orange, apricot orange, golden orange and champagne beige

If I could be totally honest, I think the only blush I'm not terribly interested in would be Antique Rose 500 given the browned shades - I love such shades for lipsticks and glosses but I prefer my blushes to be brighter; that said, its still very beautiful (just not my type). The rest, I really really like - the colour combinations are really sweet and wearable and I like how they feature a good colour palette in each blush - not just strictly pink, red or coral but a nice melange that (1) allows you to concentrate more on a particular shade or (2) use it swirled for added dimension.

Texture wise, these blushes are very soft, smooth and satiny - though some shades look like they might have a bit of frost or sparkle in them, the glimmer is superfine and translates into more of a glowy cheek, rather than chunky frost or sparkle. Pigmentation-wise, these are pigmented well enough that they show up well without having to layer several layers

Here are the swatches of all 6 shades swirled - swatches are of medium-light intensity, dry and on bare skin (NC43-45).

In particular, if you'd like to see swatches of individual shades in Mystic Rose 100 and Dreamy Rose 301, Iris had earlier posted a link to a Chinese website with such swatches HERE

I like and wear both warm and slightly cool shades - I like how these blushes span both spectrums well, making this colour selection accessible to a lot of consumers. My personal picks are 300 and 600 - I really like 400 and now, the more I look at the pictures and swatches, the more I want 301. I'm trying to resist ignore the beauty of 100, telling myself I don't need another highlighter but .... let's see.

Along with the debut of these blushes, is a new retractable Cheek Brush - I love the magenta ombre effect on the bristles.

What's lovely about this retractable brush is that rather than the regular push-pull retractable mechanism, there is actually a twist-up mechanism - the silver barrel twists up and down (like a lipstick) to control how much of the brush you want exposed or splayed out. This means you can either use it as a regular blush brush to fan out colour on your cheeks .... OR

.... twist up the barrel to reduce the size of the brush head to concentrate the brush on particular colours in the blush pan.

The Cheek Brush felt soft and smooth to the touch and while I don't own any other Anna Sui makeup brush, I know that they have a legion of fans (including my email pal from Greece Dafne, who hunted down Anna Sui makeup brushes on Ebay and Japanese auctions).

And finally, here are the new Limited Edition lip gloss duos for Spring 2012

L-R: 01, 02, 03

***************************************************************

I think the blushes are really very pretty and functional - almost everyone I know is totally mystified by the iridescent lilac beauty of Mystic Rose 100 but the others are just as gorgeous. These have good pigmentation, compact yet chic packaging and a really good variety of colour palettes to choose from.

There is only ONE MAJOR PROBLEM ....

Choosing which shade(S) you want to buy!

Review: Anna Sui Eyebrow Colour Compact For Natural-Looking Brows - It's Great Friends with MAC Fix+ too!

Oct05

Hello!

I've been reaching for the ANNA SUI EYEBROW COLOUR COMPACT in 02 (SGD$41), which premiered in the ANNA SUI Fall 2011 Collection, very often these days and finally got around to photographing the way I've been using it!

The packaging is really a draw - the cute bow-shaped compact with the emboss design just pops out from my drawer of eyeliners and eyebrow pencils so I haven't really forgotten to do my brows since I opened this. Yes, there are MANY days where I forget to do my brows - you see, my brows are rather dense and thick on their own so sometimes I can get away with not using anything on my brows.

So why do I bother with any brow products? I find that even though I don't quite need to fill in my brows altogether, the inner corners of my brows are definitely less sparse than the rest - also, doing my brows means I comb through them and "neaten" them up - it just looks neater and more "composed". I usually use the MAC Browset in Mink for my brows but somedays, especially when its overgrown, brow mascaras can end up looking rather severe.

Enter Anna Sui's Eyebrow Colour Compact - the first time I used it, I wasn't sure what to expect and I was so terrified I'd overdo it, I was so light-handed and I didn't see anything. Then I got the hang of it and also the realisation that if I CAN SEE THE PRODUCT IN MY BROWS, IT'S OVERDONE!!! :P

So here, I just show you, very simply, how I use the Anna Sui Eyebrow Colour Compact - as the title suggests, I've played around with it and figured out how it works the best for me.

***********************************************************************

First, I use my MAC 204 to comb and neaten my brows - since I tend to do my brows after most of my makeup, the MAC 204 also removes excess powder from my brows.

Next, I use the angled side of the little brush inclded in the Anna Sui Eyebrow Colour compact and pick up the brow powder - for my brows, I find that I can use both the brow powder on its own or mixed with the coloured strip. In my case, I concentrate more on the inner corners of my eyebrows where there's less hair. Then I run it through the length of my brow - if need be, I use the MAC 204 to comb through again and add more brow powder so it looks uniform as possible.

And here is what I do slightly differently from the instructions - I load up some brow powder on the little brush and then I mist it with some MAC Fix+ (setting spray).

This has 2 purposes:

(1) I don't use a brow wax prior to applying the brow powder so the MAC Fix+ allows the brow powder to adhere better and last longer - it also minimises fall-out

(2) MAC Fix+ intensifies the colour of the brow powder and makes it apply more smoothly and evenly

*********************************************************************

I like how the Anna Sui Eyebrow Colour Compact really lets me control how much I apply - sometimes with some brow mascaras (I've another one by PUPA), once I've applied it, I can't seem to adjust it and have to use a toner-soaked q-tip to help remove the excess (now you know why I sometimes just skip the brows?!).

With this brow powder, I can add more or brush off the excess with a spoolie if I so wish. It also lets me concentrate on the spots where my brows are the most sparse (i.e inner corners); I can also mix and adjust the colour of the brow powder as I wish, with the coloured strips.

And here, is the end-result - my brows look more neater and a little more filled as opposed to not having done them at all. No monster caterpillars here! :D

**********************************************************************************

Thanks for stopping by and I hope this has been useful :)

REVIEW: ANNA SUI PERFECT MASCARA

Aug21

Hello!

For Autumn Winter 2011, ANNA SUI has released a new mascara as part of its line-up - the PERFECT MASCARA (SGD$41)

The new formula has several ingredients that work in tandem to create an optical illusion of larger wider eyes - the formula, together with the brush, aim to lengthen the lashes in the centre of the eye as well as widening the shorter lashes at the sides of the eye.

To this end, it contains:

  • Fast Dry Powder - a quick drying powder that volumises lashes without clumping
  • Triple Solid Oil - 3 different oils that blend fibres together
  • Curl Keep Polymer - a water resistant polymer that works together with the Triple Solid Oil to create a waterproof film for an all-day curl
  • Ultra-fine, short fibers - that layer atop of each other for a smooth glossy finish.
  • A high concentration of black pigment in the powder - for dark, glossy lashes

And the amazing part? The mascara too, carries the Anna Sui signature rose scent!

Let's look at the packaging first:

The mascara tube is ornate and totally in the theme of the regular Anna Sui packaging, complete with glossy black plastic and intricate details. The raised rose insignias might look a tad distracting and difficult to grip but trust me - it doesn't affect how I hold or control the mascara wand

Next, the mascara brush itself - the brush is very very slim and is tapered at both ends. This brush is designed to catch even the smaller lashes at the inner and outer corners of the eyes, while the slightly broader centre deposits more mascara on the centre of your lashline.

*************************************************

How does it work? Let's look at close-ups of my eye with the ANNA SUI PERFECT MASCARA on

  • From this shot, you can see how the brush and mascara have coated all my lashes, even the teenier ones at the inner corners of my eye.

  • You can also see how the lashes in the centre of my eye look a little thicker - there is more mascara deposited there.

So the brush design does really work - not some marketing mumbo-jumbo but a brush that does what it says it will. What you're seeing is about 2 coats.

  • Overall, I find that this mascara does a great job in terms of lengthening and separating lashes - the glossiness of the formula as well as the way it coats individual lashes, really creates a wide-eyed look - which is again, exactly what the mascara is touted for.

  • However, it doesn't quite add too much volume however so I find that its a little more "natural" looking as opposed to some other heavier, dramatic mascaras I've tried.

  • And the best part? My eyelashes didn't droop - the open, wide-eyed look remains as it is until I take off my makeup. The shots you are seeing are actually the shots I took home AFTER I got home around 1am, from an event last week - there was no smudging, flaking or drooping for over the 7+ hours I had this mascara on.

  • As for removal - it is easy to remove, as easy it is to apply - the glossy, filmy product goes on and off lashes smoothly and easily, even with just cleansing oil only

For me, the new ANNA SUI PERFECT mascara is easy to use and easy on the eyes - if you're looking for something that creates a sweet, wide-eyed, somewhat natural eyelook, you might consider checking this out. The ornate packaging and the rose scent make this an even sweeter offering, if you're looking for the next gift for your mascara-fiend of a friend! :)

Do you like different mascaras on different days?

What is your favourite mascara so far?

SHOWCASE+IN-ACTION: ANNA SUI LASH AMPLIFYING MASCARA - BRIGHT, BOLD & BIGGGGGGG COLOUR!

Aug08

Hello!

In for Fall 2011, ANNA SUI has created 3 new LASH AMPLIFYING MASCARAS (SGD$41 each) - the tubes may look dainty and cute but watch out for BIIIGGGG colour that springs out from there!

While the black is pretty much a shiny deep black, the blue and pink are really bright. While playing with these, I realised that 100 Brilliant Blue has a tendency to dry down a little deeper while 300 Brilliant Pink dries to a vibrant cherry-red-pink hue.

According to Anna Sui, the mascaras are as vibrant as they are, given that there is less wax in the formula.

In terms of appearance, formula and applicator, these are TOTALLY different from the previous generation of ANNA SUI Coloured mascaras. Let's investigate :)

Although the current LASH AMPLIFYING Mascara looks way tinier, it hold 6ml of mascara while SUPER LONG LASH Mascara V holds 7.5ml of mascara

Apart from the bottle shapes, the applicator is also totally different

As you can see, SUPER LONG LASH Mascara V's applicator is more common looking (i.e the regular shaped-applicator you'd expect to see) but LASH AMPLIFYING Mascara's applicator is a flexible spatula-type 3 pronged comb.  It picks up a great amount of product (a little too much in fact - I HAVE to wipe off the excess on the mouth of the tube) but deposits mascara deftly atop lashes.

The combination of the unique creamy, film-type formula and the 3-pronged spatula results in a somewhat interesting application effect - the mascara not only coats the sides of lashes but also "paints" on the mascara on the surface of lashes.

According to Anna Sui, the formula of the LASH AMPLIFYING Mascara also aims to create voluminous lashes using copious amounts of VOLUME UP POLYMER and PLANT-BASED POLYSACCHARIDES.

Although the LASH AMPLIFYING Mascara dries down to a film-type base that is pretty much smudge-free, the mascara itself is VERY WET and VISCOUS - as such, its best not to blink too much while applying it - I managed to smudge my lower lashes the first time I played with it.

Applying it ALL OVER the lashes sort of creates a crazy-eyed effect - I have some close-up shots of my lashes heavily mascaraed first with a regular black mascara and then the Brilliant Pink all over my upper lashes and Brilliant Blue all over my lower lashes - a wee bit toooo crazy, especially in super close-up shots (which are all I took initially).

Instead, I decided to tone it down a notch and applied Brilliant Pink only to the outer corners of my upper and lower lashes (the same way you'd apply partial false lashes?)

As you can see, Brilliant Pink is really no wimp - it really shows up with wild abandon and is unapologetic about how bright and pumped up it is.

And to prove it, here's a shot taken further away where you can still see the bright punchy colour

I think a green or royal purple in this same formula would be awesome (then I can pair them with my STILA Sparkle Liners!)
