Review: Little Treasures - Lancôme Petit Trésor Sparkling Colour High Fidelity Eyeshadows

Dec31
Hola!

Another product I adored from the Holiday 2012 collections are the eyeshadows from Lancôme's TresOR collection - the Sparkling High Fidelity Eyeshadows are truly little treasures.

I received one shade, Fil D'Argent for review purposes but I loved the colours and formula so much that I purchased one more - the box on the left is the press sample packaging while the box on the right is what retails. These retailed at SGD$36 at all Lancôme counters islandwide.

I LOVE the casing - packaging is always just a bonus feature for me but these little cases are really pretty.

Just when you're done oohing and aahing on the outside, the ooh-and-ahh version 2.0 commences when you take a look at what awaits you inside.

Looovely looovely loooooovely. The eyeshadows were pressed to resemble woven mesh fabric - like glistening sequins on a glitzy dress. When swatched, you can tell that there tiny micro-sparkles are enmeshed in the silky eyeshadow -  the micro-sparkles are smooth and create a subtle sparkling effect on the eye. Lancôme recommends that these eyeshadows can be used either wet or dry.

These are swatches of all 3 shades I managed to take during the preview. The shot below is a better shot of the 2 shades I have with me right now, Fil D'Or and Fil D'Argent.

The formula of these eyeshadows are stellar - very smooth and wonderful colour payoff. I like using these wet or with a damp sponge applicator - I usually use a brush with all my eyeshadows but I felt with these, they glistened and glowed the best when used with a sponge applicator.

Fil D'Argent is a warm taupe with very little grey or purple tones. Fil D'Or is a rich bronzed gold.

I used both the shades recently in a similar style - the Lancôme Petit Trésors all over the lids, paired with a deeper shade in the crease. I think I like them both paired with a warm bronzey brown in the crease, after experimenting with a few shades.

Here, I paired Fil D'Argent with a wash of Make Up Store Jubilee (blackened gold) in the crease.

Base: Olay White Radiance Sunblock; Smashbox Hydrating Primer; Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation in 743 Rich Beige; Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage Concealer in SC-&; Bobbi Brown Pressed Powder in Golden Orange.

Eyes: Lancôme Petit Trésor in Fil D'Argent; Make Up Store Microshadow in Jubilee; MAC Prolongwear Eyeshadow in Carefree (browbone highlight); Dollywink Liquid Eyeliner in Black; Clio Gelpresso (waterline); MUFE Aqua Cream in Black (lower lashline); Lancome Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara

Cheeks: NARS Torrid

Lips: Lancôme L'Absolu Nu in Prune Resille

*******************************************************************************************

In this shot, I paired Fil D'Or with MAC Mega Metal Eyeshadow in Spectacle Of Yourself in the crease.

Base: Same as listed above

Eyes: Lancôme Petit Trésor in Fil D'Or; MAC Mega Metal Eyeshadow in Spectacle Of Yourself; MAC Prolongwear Eyeshadow in Carefree (browbone highlight); Dollywink Liquid Eyeliner in Black; Too Faced Perfect Eyeliner in Perfect Peacock (waterline); MUFE Aqua Cream in Black (lower lashline).

Cheeks: NARS Gold Member Creme Blush; Chanel Joues Contraste in Rouge

Lips: Lancôme L'Abosolu Nu in Prune Resille

*******************************************************************************************

I was tempted to pick up the other shade in the Petit Trésor range too and the lipstick in L'Absolu Rouge in 375 which was also released in the Holiday collection, pictured in the collage below (click to enlarge)

With much restraint, I stopped myself ... only to allow myself to be tempted by the lure of the metallic eyeliners from the same collection - I picked up Taupe Brilliant with the kind help of Elaine and Lynn who purchased it in Hong Kong for me and I cannot wait to see it!

I love the Petit Trésor Eyeshadows - perhaps even more than the new Lancôme Ombre Hypnôse Mono eyeshadow formula and hope that they will release more shades in this gorgeous finish. Totally worth the money (even cheaper in Hong Kong, I hear)!

*******************************************************************************************

Thanks for stopping by always and have a beautiful day ahead!

*******************************************************************************************

Disclaimer: Fil D'Argent was provided for consideration, together with Les Paillettes Aux Yeux. Fil D'Or was purchased with my own money. All opinions expressed are my own and are unbiased.

Qwic-Pic: CLIO Art Collection Featuring Art Eyeshadow in Forte Gold Green and Art Blusher in Rose Pink

Dec28
Hello!

Hope you had a fab Christmas and are all happily gearing up for the New Year festivities :)

A little while ago, I received some products from CLIO's Art Collection. In this entry, I'd like to focus on the Art Blusher and Art Eyeshadow 1.5 (I'll feature the Twisturn Eyeliners in a separate entry).

The Art Collection was created in 2005 and was very popular in Korea after its inception - the packaging features art work by various artists and was declared as a best-selling range instantly. While the packaging is a draw, I really love the eyeshadow trio and the blush and can understand why this collection drew rave reviews.

Before I move on to the blush and the eyeshadow, here's a quick look at the lipstick and lipgloss.

Available in 6 shades - Red, Pink Beige, Orange Coral, Vanilla Pink, Paris Pink and Grace Pink, the Art Lipstick (SGD$23.90) contains sunflower oil and kernel oil to keep lips moisturised.

*******************************************************************************************

The Art Lipgloss (SGD$23.90) is also available in 6 shades - Nude Cherry, Glow Orange, Pink Shot, Glam Cocoa, Lucid Peach and Apricot Peach. The highlight of the gloss apart from its Vitamin C and E enriched formula is the dual-sided applicator - one side is a flocked padded applicator while the other is a spatula. Chantana has clear pictures of the applicator and swatches of the lipgloss in Glam Cocoa HERE

*******************************************************************************************

Moving on to the Art Blusher and the Art Shadow 1.5 - I love these!

The Art Blusher (SGD$33.90) is available in 4 shades - Peach, Pink, Rose Pink and Orange Peach. It is available in either a single solid colour or a marblelised variation. The blusher I received is in 4 Rose Pink and is a single, solid shade.

It comes packaged with a semi-circle shaped flat brush with very soft bristles - the brush is not scratchy but I prefer using my own blush brush with this blusher for a more controlled application.

The blush itself reminds me of the Mineralised blushes from MAC. The texture is smooth with no grittiness at all and when worn, it has a lovely glow to it. Rose Pink is a medium rose shade interlaced with very fine golden micro-shimmer that makes for a very glowy cheek.

In the swatch shot above, I swatched it a little more heavily so that you can see the glowy, iridescent blush.

And finally, we have the Art Eyeshadow 1.5 - these are available as Duos (SGD$23.90) or as Trios (SGD$25.90). As with all baked eyeshadows, thesecan be used dry (for a natural look) or wet / foiled for greater intensity. there are 14 shades available in all.

I received mine in a versatile colour combination - 405 Forte Gold Green.

Forte Goldgreen is a lovely trio of a Khaki Olive Green, a pinked brown and a white-gold. All 3 shades had excellent colour pay off, with greater intensity when used with a damp brush.

I liked how the trio was more or less pretty evenly split - some baked eyeshadows have an obscene amount of one shade in particular and a way smaller portion allocated to another (and more often than not, the shade I like the most will be in the teeniest section!). A regular sized eyeshadow brush (I'm using the flat eyeshadow brush from The Body Shop) fits perfectly in the different sections without messing up the other shades.

Here is a simple look I pulled together using the Art Blusher in Rose Pink and the Art Eyeshadow 1.5 in Forte Goldgreen.

I used the Khaki Olive Green all over my lids, the pinked-brown on my crease and the white gold on my browbone; I used all of the eyeshadows with a damp brush.

Base and Foundation: Olay White Radiance Sunblock; RMK Creamy Polished Base in 00; Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation in 734 Rich Beige; Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage Concealer in SC-7; Bobbi Brown Pressed Powder in Golden Orange.

Eyes: CLIO Art Eyeshadow 1.5 in Forte Goldgreen; CLIO Gelpresso in Golden Black (waterline); Dollywink Liquid Eyeliner in Black (upper lashline); MUFE Aqua Cream in Black (lower lashline); Dollywink Volume Mascara in Black.

Cheeks: CLIO Art Blusher in Rose Pink

Lips: Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in RD305 Nymph

*******************************************************************************************

CLIO Professional point makeup is available exclusively in all Watsons stores - I adore the Gelpressos and have a stash of them. From the Art Collection, the baked blushers are really worth a look.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend ahead ;)

Holiday 2012: Prismatic Party Eyes With MUFE's Holodiam Collection (Collection Details, Swatches & In-Action Shots)

Dec18
Hello!

One of the prettiest colour collections for Holiday 2012 has to be Make Up For Ever's Holodiam Collection. The prismatic eye powders are perfect for the party season - I promise :)

In this entry, we'll take a look at the collection, swatches, some how-to's from the brand itself and my simple take on the Holodiam Powder in #302

The Holodiam Collection features 3 Limited Edition offerings - 4 Holodiam Powders, glittery gold eyelashes and the Aqua Eyes Collection.

Let's start off with the eyelashes ...

Deep yellow-gold tinsel lashes (SGD$32) that are so eye-catching - I love sparkle but these take some guts :) Very festive for sure.

*******************************************************************************************

The iconic Aqua Eyes eyeliner pencils are featured in a kit for Holiday 2012 - 5 travel-sized coloured pencils accompany a retail-sized eyeliner pencil in jet black. The Aqua Eyes Collection retails at SGD$65. While the travel-sized eyeliners are a great way to sample the various shades (there are 25 in total), they are also rather tiny.

#12L Blue with Green Highlights and #3L Iridescent Navy Blue are beautiful beautiful.

*******************************************************************************************

And then we have the stars of the collection - the Holodiam Powders (SGD$41 each).

These are formulated with synthetic mica, mineral pigments and a glass base for a highly iridescent, pearlescent and prismatic effect. They might look gritty but I swear - so so so smooth, you wouldn't believe they are glitters. They feel like smooth pigments going on.

These are packaged in sturdy little clear jars that shows you the beautiful colours inside - something I always appreciate with eye makeup. They are packaged with sifters but I prefer using them without the sifters - I usually take a little with my brush and work them on the lid of the jar - this way, I can better control the amout that's getting out and on my brush (somehow I minimise spillage this way)

There are 4 shades to choose from - 301, 302, 303 and 304. Each shade reflects light differently, creating different chamelon-like effects.

Usually, the prismatic effects are best noticed when such products are swatched or applied over a black base. The Holodiam Powders show off their characteristics even without a dark base, as you will see in the set of swatches below.

Gorgeous!!!!

MUFE has some suggestions on how you can use these with this step-by-step tutorial:

I love how this backstage shot captured the plethora of colours on the model's eyelids.

MUFE Singapore also demonstrated the use of the Holodiam Powders, using MUFE Aqua Cream in Black as a base.

In the final look you can see how the colours reflect differently depending on angle and lighting!

*******************************************************************************************

The Holodiam Powder can be used even for a normal glimmery eye look. I used 302 over the MUFE Aqua Shadow Pencil in 0E (Black) all over my eye lids and blended it upwards into a gold browbone highlight colour.

I misted my brush with a little MAC Fix+ (or you can use MUFE's version of Mist & Fix) and it lasted the whole evening with zero fallout - I can get my chum Elaine to vouch for that. In real life, the turquoise tones are more vibrant and jewel-like.

The rare toothy grin because I really liked how the Holodiam Powder applied and stayed on - smooth and no trouble at all.

Foundation, Concealer & Powder: Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation in 734 Rich Beige; Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage Concealer in SC-7; Bobbi Brown Pressed Powder in Golden Orange

Cheeks: NARS Torrid; MAC Shell Pearl

Eyes: Dollywink Liquid Eyeliner in Black; MUFE Aqua Eyes in #12L Blue with Green Highlights (waterline); MUFE Aqua Cream in Black (lower lashline); Lancôme Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara

Lips: MUFE Rouge Artist Intense in #29

*******************************************************************************************

The folks at MUFE have suggestions on how you can party-proof your makeup with other complementary products:

If anything at all, invest in a couple of Aqua Creams - they are really awesome and work great both as eyeshadow bases or eyeliners. I love every single Aqua Cream I own.

*******************************************************************************************

Thanks for stopping by and have a fab day ahead!

Holiday 2012: The Body Shop Winter Trend 2012 - The Smoky Eye Palettes & Colourglide Shine Lipsticks In Action

Dec18
Hello and hope your week started off well :)

For Holiday 2012, The Body Shop premiered a festive-looking colour collection featuring 2 eyeshadow palettes, metallic eyeliners, glossy lipsticks, all-over shimmer pearls and all-over sparkler atomisers. In this entry, I'd like to feature the Smoky Eyeshadow Palettes and the Colorglide Shine Lipsticks.

Let's start off with the Colourglide Shine Lipsticks (SGD$22.90). Though the packaging is very simple and no-frills, the metallic silver and gold casing keeps it looking chic.

It's been a while since I've tried a lipstick from The Body Shop and I really liked how comfortable the formula was - all the lipsticks are smooth, including #12 which is a red with gold sparkle - no grit at all. The formula really glides on lips for a glossy juicy pout.

Of the 4, #12 and #13 had the most opaque payoff, with #12 being slightly more opaque and lasting through a meal for me. Of the lot, #13   is my favourite - a lovely rose pink.

*******************************************************************************************

The Smoky Eyeshadow Palettes (SGD$39.90) are available in 2 variations as is usually the case. For Winter Trend 2012, we are presented with Smoky Copper and Smoky Moonstone. Each palette comes packaged with 2 brushes - a flat eyeshadow brush and a slanted eyeliner brush. Both are of good quality and rather similar to the full-sized brushes available in the regular brush range.

Each palette comes with instructions on how to use the 4 colours in the palette.

Unlike last year's palette which featured a sparkly creme eyeshadow and a matte shade that doubles up as an eyeliner, all 4 shades in Winter Trend 2012 palettes are highly pearlised.

I thought I would like Smoky Copper, with my love for bronzes and rose golds but really, Smoky Moonstone is my prefered palette of the 2.

That said, both palettes swatch and apply well - there is something about the formula that makes it feel almost creamy-tacky and they adhere to skin well. All shades are well-pigmented and are smooth. My preferred method of using these is with a slightly damp brush over a good base for the best color pay-off.

The swatches you see below are dry swatches, on dry skin with no base.

Smoky Copper is very warm but Smoky Moonstone isn't too cool-toned which makes it very wearable. In both palettes, the first shades seem rather similar - a pearlised off-white but the 3rd shade in both palettes are riveting - awesome metallic payoff.

*******************************************************************************************

Here, I've used Smoky Moonstone on 2 occasions - I changed the colour placement and used different lipcolours in both the looks.

Here, I used the 3rd shade all over my lids and used the deeper 4th shade in the palette in my crease and beyond. I used a gold base to warm up the 2nd pale gold shade and used that as a browbone highlight. In this shot, I have on Colourglide Shine #12 - a rich red with minute gold sparkle.

Foundation, Concealer & Powder: Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation in 734 Rich Beige; Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage in SC-7; Bobbi Brown Pressed Powder in Golden Orange

Cheeks: Benefit Bella Bamba

Eyeliner & Mascara: Dollywink Liquid Eyeliner in Black; Lancôme Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara; Clio Gelpresso in Golden Black (waterline); MUFE Aqua Cream in Black (lower lashline)

*******************************************************************************************

In this look, I used the 4th deeper shade all over my lids and used the 3rd metallic shade buffed out on my crease and beyond. Similar to the first look, I warmed up the 2nd pale gold shade with a gold base for my browbone highlight. In this shot, I have on Colourglide Shine in #13 - a beautiful glossy rose pink.

Foundation, Concealer and Powder: Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation in 734 Rich Beige; Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer in SC-7; Bobbi Brown Pressed Powder in Golden Orange.

Cheeks: NARS Torrid

Eyeliner & Mascara: Dollywink Liquid Eyeliner in Black; Lancôme Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara; Clio Gelpresso in Golden Black (waterline); MUFE Aqua Cream in Black (lower lashline).

*******************************************************************************************

The Body Shop also has a instructional video on its website on how to achieve the Winter Trend 2012 look with the Smoky Moonstone Eyeshadow Palette

*******************************************************************************************

The Winter Trend 2012 colour collection is available at all The Body Shop stores - they're worth taking a look at, with good colour pay-off, easy-to-work with textures and a nice colour combination.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day ahead. Happy Festive Feasting and Shopping!

Review: Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oils For Your Hair

Dec11
Hello!

You know I really thought I had talked about this before but I cannot find it anywhere on my blog - I probably intended to but never got around to it. Which is probably all for the good because I now have a newfound appreciation for it!
Kérastase's Elixir Ultime - a powerful beautifying oil for manageable hair.

I initially tried this oil as a leave-in product on dried hair - I didn't like that much because I felt that it was too heavy and oily. Then I tried it as a pre-wash treatment - I let the oil soak in my hair for a good 15 minutes before a shower and then washed it out. That was fine but I didn't quite see much difference in my hair texture or quality.

In the last few months, I've gone off chemical hair dyes - I've gone back to my old ways of using henna to deepen the colour of my hair and the regular use of herbal oils with Indian herbs like Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Soapnut etc leave my hair healthier, more voluminous but also a little more tangled. Oils and washing powders containing Amla or Indian Gooseberry are known to deepen hair colour and strengthen hair from root but have a terrible resin that tangles hair to no end.

Out of sheer desperation and tired of fighting with the tangles, I pumped a little of the Kérastase Elixir Ultime into my damp hair and the tangles combed out. After a quick and gentle blow-dry, my hair was easy to comb, still voluminous but softer and smoother.

After about 2 weeks of continous usage, I really feel a vast difference to my hair - it's much smoother and softer and in general, has far less tangles. And this results in less breakage and so much less frustration. The great thing is that the oil, once dried, doesn't even feel like oil in my hair - hair just feels conditioned but not oily and heavy which is exactly what I want.

So that's how it works! For me, that is ...

*******************************************************************************************

The packaging is luxe - it might be a clear plastic pump-style bottle but the shimmering, reflective gold label gives the bottle a pseudo-faceted look. The bottle is tinged an ochre shade and together with the "facets", you get a jewel-like bottle, reminiscent of topaz, a semi-precious stone.

The pump has a very small nozzle - for my fine hair, one pump is enough for one application.

The oil has a runny but dense texture - I know that sounds strange but it is very fluid once pumped out and runs all over my hand. But when I'm rubbing my palms together to distribute the oil evenly, I can feel that it's not watery and thin. The oil is clear.

It has a nice fragrance to it - a little musky-floral and it doesn't quite bother me once my hair is dried.

Elixir Ultime contains the Oléo-Complex which is a cocktail of nourishing ingredients such as:

  • Maize Oil - for its emollient and anti-oxidant properties

  • Pracaxi Oil - for shine, nourishment and deep conditioning

  • Camellia Oil - smooths hair fibre

  • Argan Oil - restores strength to hair and protects it from external aggressors

*******************************************************************************************

After having won legions of fans worldwide, Kérastase recently expanded the Elixir Ultime Beautifying Hair Oils range. Earlier this year, it premiered 3 other variants to form the Les Grand Crus Collection. In addition to the potent Oléo-Complex, each of these 3 variants contain additional scents and star ingredients to suit different hair needs.

Rose Millénaire - the purple bottle contains a beautifying oil for fine and sensitised hair. It contains the Oléo-Complex and extracts of the Hundred Petal Rose which is known for its regenerative and restorative properties. Rose Millénaire also contains Vitamin E to protect hair from harmful UV radicals. The formula is said to be lightweight and is thus suitable for fine hair. The scent is inspired by the scent of Lancôme's Aromatonic - a delicate yet fresh floral fragrance.

Moringa Immortel - the green bottle contains a beautifying oil for damaged and weakened hair. It contains the Oléo-Complex and Moringa extract - the Moringa tree is famed for its resilience in the most adverse of conditions. Moringa Immortel also contains Vitamins A, C, Calcium, Iron and Magnesium which instantly fortify and replenish hair. The scent is inspired by Flower by Kenzo, a slightly sporty fragrance with woody, oriental and citrus notes.

Impérial Tea - the pink bottle contains a beautifying oil for colour-treated hair. It contains the Oléo-Complex and Imperial Tea extract which has an intense concentration of anti-oxidants to neutralise free radicals that damage and age hair. The flavanoids, anti-oxidants and epigallocatechins present in Imperial Tea protect hair against external aggressors and leave hair radiant and glossy. The scent is inspired by one of my current favourite fragrances, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle - a soft floral with gentle fruit notes.

All Kérastase Elixir Oils retail at SGD$66 for 125ml at authorised Kérastase salons. I have my eye on the Impérial Tea and Rose Millénaire variants but at the rate I'm using my current Elixir Ultime, one tiny pump at a time, it's going to be a while before I should think about trying these new ones out.

If you're looking to shake up your hair routine for the upcoming New Year or you want to give your hair some TLC after all the styling stress during the party season, these fortifying, beautifying hair oils from Kérastase might be an option for you.

*******************************************************************************************

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy day ahead!
