Hi hi hi ...
In case you've not seen, Christine of Temptalia.com has run a gamut of features on red lipstick recently, in light of the Christmas season - called the Scarlet Season, Christine has reviewed (including lip-swatches) several high-end, mid-range, drugstore brands of red lipsticks for her readers.
Her posts have made me dig up my red lipsticks again - operative words being DIG UP and AGAIN. You see, like how I find red nails attractive as I mentioned in my Ruby Pumps manicure entry, I also find red lips very attractive. I also go through my colour phases - right now, I'm in a nude latte and nude pink lippy phase. But when I was hit by the red phase, I went out and hunted high and low for the perfect red - we all know that there are a gazillion shades of orange-based reds, blue-based reds, pinky reds, brown reds, etc. So from my phases, I've accumulated 3 red lippies: Chanel Rouge Hydrabase in RED DREAM; Estee Lauder Pure Colour Long Lasting Lipstick in FIG; and Elizabeth Arden Colour Intrigue Effects Lipstick in RUBY PEARL (this was part of a Gift with Purchase but I chose the colour out of 2 or 3); of the three I have, I really love Ruby Pearl as its such a beautiful shade with a slight goldeny-sheen. Here are the not-so-clear/accurate swatches (in the same order as above) just to get an idea of the colours. I also managed to locate a decent pic of Ruby Pearl on the Internet to compensate for my fuzzy pics.

I LOVE the colour of the lippies in the tube; I LOVE the colour of the swatches on my hand and inner arm/wrist; but somehow, when I wear it (no matter what kind of eye MU I apply - mostly when I plan to wear a red lippy, I keep the eye simpler with a standard smokey eye), I JUST CANNOT LEAVE THE HOUSE with the red lippy on. I feel it looks odd; that my lips look like a bee arbitrarily stung it; that my face looks various shades of white and yellow (and we know that it is impossible with an NC43-45 skintone ya?). So onto a tissue it goes and out comes a different lippy - and the ruby beauties get stashed deep into my drawer, only to resurface when another scarlet-craving occurs. So far, I've only managed to successfully leave the house with a light layer of MAC lipglass in Cult of Cherry (a bright, almost patent red lipgloss from the 2008 Holiday collection); then again, I remember checking my face 500 times that day and was sooo conscious. Ask me to wear a purple or fuschia lippy and I have no qualms, but I just get nervous with the red lippies. *sad sad*
Sigh ... what should I do? Should I just suck it up and wear it bravely anyway? Do any of you have similar problems with red lippies or any other stories with other products?
